The Letter to Philemon
Saint Paul's letter to Philemon is a short, personal letter written during his imprisonment, perhaps in Rome between 61/63 AD. The letter concerns a runaway slave named Onesimus. Paul met Onesimus during one of his missionary journeys and successfully shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with him. Paul writes that he would like to have Onesimus continue as a companion and fellow laborer for the Lord. However, he wants to send him back to his legal master to obtain his official released from service. Paul asks his master to treat Onesimus like a Christian brother and a close family member.
